What does Birm media remove?

Birm is used mainly to remove dissolved iron and manganese from well water and process water. It works as a catalyst: in the presence of dissolved oxygen, iron and manganese oxidise into solid particles that are trapped in the filter bed and flushed out during backwashing.

What water conditions does Birm need?

Birm performs best when the water contains enough dissolved oxygen and has a suitable pH (typically around 6.8 or higher for iron removal and higher for manganese). Water with hydrogen sulphide, oil or high chlorine levels should be pre-treated. Our team can review your water test results before you order.

Does Birm need chemicals to regenerate?

No. Birm does not require chemical regeneration. Regular backwashing is enough to remove the trapped particles, which keeps running costs low.
